Roll A Sight Word

My students have enjoyed these little activities with our sight words.  I call it “Roll A Pop Corn” word in my class.  I use the Dolch sight words.  I have included the pre primer and primer words.  My classroom friends LOVE playing this  “game” (as they call it)!!!!

Since the have had so much fun with it I decided to include it on my TPT store.  I hope your friends will enjoy it as much as mine have.

December Fun!!!

I can’t believe the holidays are here!!  We had our Holiday Cantata two days ago!!  It was great to see all of our parents and a few grandparents in our classroom!!  Things got so busy in December that I forgot to take many pictures as we learned about evergreen trees, our 5 senses and had a great time learning about reindeer.
Here are a few thinking maps that we completed during the month of December.  These are in my Marvelous Thinking Map TPT Unit.

Thinking Maps

A few weeks ago my principal ask me make a presentation to our faculty on Thinking Maps.  Our school began to learn about Thinking Maps 4 years ago, and what a wonderful learning tool they have been!!
In the beginning I wondered how I would implement these with my kindergarten friends.  It did not take long to find out how this would be such a great addition to my teaching “tool bag”.

After I held the presentation I was encouraged by a fellow teacher add these ideas to my TPT store.  I hope you can find something in it that will be a new addition to your “Tool Bag”.  These are Thinking Maps that I use all through the year.   It has 36 individual thinking maps and 30 whole group map ideas with directions to make.

Healthy Foods Unit was a Blast!

We next spent a week learning about Healthy Foods and how to incorporate these into our daily lives.  One of our favorite activities was our art activity where we made our basket full of healthy foods.  My friends really enjoyed our science experiments!  We were having so much fun I forgot to take a picture.  L

Learning Filled November

I can’t believe that November has come and gone.  It seemed to go by so fast.  My students really enjoyed our Long and Ago unit which centered around Thanksgiving!  We brought this unit to a close with our annual Thanksgiving Feast that we completely prepared by my students and myself!!  It was a wonderful time with all of our families!!!!

Long Ago and Today / Thanksgiving

Oh my!!  I can’t believe that October is almost over.  We are getting ready to move on to our Long Ag & Today / Thanksgiving Unit.  I love this unit.  My students always enjoy learning about how things have changed over the years.  We always bring this unit to a close by having our own feast where my students and I do all the cooking and invite our parents to come and eat with us.  It is one of those MEMORIES we love to make while learning about cooking measurements, how preparing food has changed over the years, healthy foods, how to set a table and how we can cooperate to make this event all possible and MUCH more.  This is going to be a great month!!!

Below is a look at my TPT unit that we complete in my class. Please take a look!!

Pumpkin Fun!!!

Last week we learned all about pumpkins!  I just realize that I had a few pictures I thought some of my families might enjoy.  I used my pumpkin unit as we explored a pumpkin.  Here are just a little that we did.

Math Common Core

We put a new twist on an old activity.  We always like to use our fall leaves and practice writing the numbers 0-20 and putting them in order, but this year we worked on developing concepts of counting & cardinality by adding the number of chips on top of each number.

My little friends loved doing this!!!!

Pumpkin time!!

Wow Pumpkins!!  We love pumpkins.  I asked my class to predict what would happen if we added soil to our pumpkin.  The most common answer was that it would rot.  One child said it would grow and my little friends were very adamant that would NOT happen.  We next completed our prediction page.  Well I guess I started it a little too soon this year.  It sprouted in 4 days!!  How exciting when my little friends came into the class that morning!!  It was an exciting day.  We could tell a difference from morning to afternoon on how tall it grew.

We started with one sprout and by the afternoon, we had more!!

I have just put my Pumpkin Unit on TPT.  It is a fun filled learning unit!!

Common Core Math

All of our teachers have been super busy implementing the Common Core Math Standards!!  It has been so much fun working together to come up with new and exciting ideas!!  We have a great math specialist who has really been a great help.  Check out some of the great pictures.

Using five frame cards!!  We have really enjoyed playing all kinds of games.

One to one correspondence with ladybugs!!  We added a great twist by using tweezers to help develop our fine motor skills!!

50’s Day is coming soon!!

50’s Day is coming soon!!  I just got my 50’s day unit completed!  This day is one of our most memorable in my class.  The children LOVE it. I am posting it tonight on my TPT store.  Hope you enjoy.

Our kindergarten Team celebrates with rotations for each class.  We each plan an activity to complete with every kindergarten class.  Our students love getting to interact with the other teachers.

I have added many math activities with the number 50, but I have also included several that center around literacy.  I have included the activities we do in our rotation but also many more I do in my classroom during the day.
