Teen Numbers - Ten Frames

WOW!!  Today was such a great day.  We worked with our Teen Number Mats(using ten frames) during our whole group math time.  I can see my children are getting it!!!  Teen numbers are coming along.  I was really impressed with their counting on from the top ten frame.

They loved this activity today as we rotated from group to group.  Using the different manipulatives was a real bonus!  They could not wait to see what the next items were going to be.

   See the pictures below!!!

Fall

This has been one of the craziest school beginnings I have ever had.  It seems to be taking a great deal of time to accomplish all of the goals I want to accomplish!!  I know that my goals can sometimes be a little lofty, but I still strive to meet them all.  I have also had to deal with several illnesses of my oldest child.  He is in college, but we have had many hurdles to get over during the past 2 month.

I hope I am back to begin to sharing all of the wonderful things my students are accomplishing!!  We have completed a great Insect Unit and an amazing Fall unit.  My students are flourishing!!!  I am so impressed with how they are moving forward.

I have been completely amazed at how my new sight word program is increasing the students’ knowledge of these special words.  They are learning so much.  I wish I could show you how excited they are when they complete a set and move to the next set.  I have also been so impressed with how all of the students are supporting each other with positive comments with they complete a set.  I have had to move to checking the sets only on Fridays.  We have large classes this year and I was struggling with finding time in every day to assess their list.  My students we a little disappointed, but it has made our last 2 Fridays VERY exciting!!

I am going to add my new Fall and Insect Unit soon to TPT.  Maybe you can use it in your classroom.

Learning Sight Words Made Easy

I am so excited to share my sight word home to school program.  I call it Fill your Tub – with sight words.

This is a sight word program that will greatly complement your other sight word activities in your classroom.  There are some materials and preparation that is involved in getting this program started, but it will be well worth the effort!!

The program uses the Dolch sight words.  This is the list that is recommended to be used for common core learning.  The Dolch word list has the most common words that are encountered in children’s books.  Sight words are critical in early reading development because most are hard to sound out or to illustrate.
I have added it to TPT so that it can be added to you "tool belt" to use with your students.

Back To School

What a busy two weeks we have had!!  We have finally gotten everything together and had our first day of school.  It has been a sad time at our school due to a tragedy that has hit our faculty, but together we have pulled together and made the first days special for all of our students.

I was so honored when I was asked to present to our district kindergarten teachers on Thinking Maps.  It was so much fun to see some old friends and I even made a few new ones!  I was able to share my Thinking Map Graphic Organizers and how I use them to go along with common core LA.

Here are a few pictures after I set up the room.  Thank you Sugar Creek Elem. School for hosting the kindergarten teams from all over our district!

I do have my unit on TPT on Graphic Organizers if you want to have more information.
